However in recent years it has also become a extremely powerful server to stream live and on demand video in several formats to our network and the Internet.

Rincewind has a new rendering pipeline for audio, with better effiency, volume and device management, to improve VLC audio support. The Enlightenment desktop shell provides an efficient yet breathtaking window manager based on the Enlightenment Foundation Libraries along with other essential desktop components like a file manager, desktop icons and widgets. It boasts an unprecedented level of theme-ability while still being capable of performing on older hardware or embedded devices.
Enlightenment is not just a window manager for Linux/X11 and others, but also a whole suite of libraries to help you create beautiful user interfaces with much less work than doing it the old fashioned way and fighting with traditional toolkits, not to mention a traditional window manager. It covers uses from small mobile devices like phones all the way to powerful multi-core desktops (which are the primary development environment).

Linux Mint Driver Manager updated to latest version, Install in Ubuntu via PPA

Install Linux Mint 'Driver Manager' in Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty/13.10 Saucy/13.04 Raring/12.10 Quantal/and other related Ubuntu derivatives

Linux Mint 15 had Driver Manager for the first time which is developed by Linux Mint team. Mint-Drivers relies on the same Ubuntu driver manager back-end and works the same way as software-properties-gtk. It just looks a bit better than Ubuntu Additional drivers.
The "Driver Manager" is an independent application, separate from "Software Sources" and which you can launch straight from the menu.
Drivers are listed by package name, and their version are clearly stated (in the case of the NVIDA drivers you can therefore choose according to a particular version instead of wondering what "current" or "updates" really mean).
Devices from popular brands (NVIDIA, ATI, Broadcom, Samsung and so on...) are illustrated with an icon.

Install Simple Screen Recorder in Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy/13.04 Raring/12.10 Quantal/12.04 Precise/Linux Mint 16/15/14/13/Other Ubuntu derivatives

SimpleScreenRecorder is desktop recorder tool to record games or programs on Linux desktop, it is developed by Maarten Baert and his aim was to develop a program that could fulfill all desktop recorder needs. The program isn't really simple as its name shows off, it has rich features but with straightforward QT-based user interface. This program supports X11 and OpenGL, also support many codecs and file formats.
It allows user to record entire screen (Multi Monitor Support) or part of the screen, or record specific OpenGL application. Recording can be paused/resumed at anytime. It has ability to keep video and audio synchronized, on slower PC it can be done by reducing frames and it has support for multi-threading. For performance improvement and other features see this link.
simple screen recorder

simple screen recorder

Features:
  • Graphical user interface (Qt-based).
  • Faster than VLC and ffmpeg/avconv.

  • Synchronizes audio and video properly (a common issue with VLC and ffmpeg/avconv).
  • Reduces the video frame rate if your computer is too slow (rather than using up all your RAM like VLC does).
  • Fully multithreaded: small delays in any of the components will never block the other components, resulting is smoother video and better performance on computers with multiple processors.
  • Pause and resume recording at any time (either by clicking a button or by pressing a hotkey).
  • Shows statistics during recording (file size, bit rate, total recording time, actual frame rate, ...).
  • Can show a preview during recording, so you don't waste time recording something only to figure out afterwards that some setting was wrong.
  • Uses libav/ffmpeg libraries for encoding, so it supports many different codecs and file formats (adding more is trivial).
  • Can also do live streaming (experimental).
  • Sensible default settings: no need to change anything if you don't want to.
  • Tooltips for almost everything: no need to read the documentation to find out what something does.

PlayonLinux 4.2.2 available for Ubuntu/Linux Mint/other Ubuntu derivatives via PPA

Install Playonlinux in Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty/13.10 Saucy/13.04 Raring/12.10 Quantal/12.04 Precise/Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric/11.04/Linux Mint 16/15/14/13/12/11/and other Ubuntu derivatives

PlayOnLinux is a piece of software which allows you to easily install and use numerous apps and games designed to run with Microsoft Windows. Few apps and games are compatible with GNU/Linux at the moment and it certainly is a factor preventing the migration to this system. PlayOnLinux brings a cost-free, accessible and efficient solution to this problem.

playonlinux

What are PlayOnLinux's features?
  • You don't have to own a Windows license to use PlayOnLinux.
  • PlayOnLinux is based on Wine, and so profits from all its features yet it keeps the user from having to deal with its complexity.
  • PlayOnLinux is free software.
  • PlayOnLinux uses Bash and Python.

Nevertheless, PlayOnLinux has some bugs:
  • Occasional performance decrease (image may be less fluid and graphics less detailed).
  • Not all apps/games are supported. Nevertheless, you can use our manual installation module.

Fixes in this version:
  • Changelog move from plaintext to Markdown syntax.
  • read script lists in utf8 when looking up script to install.
  • (experimental) new algorithm to find installed Python version, implements fallback which is probably overkill.
  • New version of PlayOnLinux Vault 4.0.4:
    • Adding lzop compression if available (fast compression with medium compression rate).
    • Add a "Save" shortcut in PlayOnLinux side panel.
  • Fix double utf-8 decoding of shortcuts.
  • Add POL_Shortcut_Configurator.
  • Modified POL_System_wget to keep error messages from wget.
  • Updated PNG icons with broken profiles, thanks to calvertyl (http://www.playonlinux.com/en/topic-10442-New_Warning_Message_on_startup.html).
  • wine-mono download support.
  • Fix POL_SetupWindow_message typo (not enough video memory message).
  • POL_LoadVar_Device: refacto POL_DetectVideoCards; Let user choose when there's more than one known videocard present.
  • Add link to download page in side panel when version is not up-to-date Not sure it's visible enough, could be improved.
  • Added logging to archivers wrappers (POL_System_unzip etc.).
  • Update mono download URLs.
  • Updated IRC server address, freenode.com domain is gone.
  • Harden applications list parsing.
  • force LANG=C when spawning wineconsole.
  • fix typo in bash/manual_install.
  • Developer feature: allow to override function scripts When global configuration ALLOW_FUNCTION_OVERRIDES is set to TRUE, function scripts in $POL_USER_ROOT/configurations/function_overrides/ override function scripts by the same name. This feature disables bug reporting.
  • Fix website login when username contains spaces.
  • "Run an .exe in this virtual disk" sets current directory to program's directory.
  • fix "wineserver not found" in interactive use of POL_Wine_Direct3D / POL_Wine_X11Drv / POL_Wine_DirectSound / POL_Wine_DirectInput.
  • Remove use of os.system() from mainwindow.py and configure.py (less overhead, less quoting nightmare).
  • Add missing POL_Wine_AutoSetVersionEnv before wineserver calls.

Note: PlayonLinux requires winehq in order to work. You can install winehq 1.7, winehq 1.5, or wine 1.4.
